Web design and development

Websites built around the two questions every visitor is silently asking: can I trust these people, and what do I do next.

From £499

The problem

Most small business websites fail in the first five seconds, and not because they are ugly. They fail because a visitor cannot immediately tell what the business does, whether it covers their area, whether anyone else has trusted it, or what the next step is.

The usual causes are structural rather than decorative: a homepage that opens with a welcome message instead of an offer, contact details buried on a separate page, a phone number that is not a link on mobile, and a layout that was designed at desktop width and squeezed down afterwards.

How we approach it

We design at phone width first, because that is where the overwhelming majority of local searches happen, and because a layout that works in 375 pixels almost always expands gracefully — while the reverse is rarely true.

Then the page is built around one primary action. Everything above the fold exists to establish what the business does, where it works and why it can be trusted, and everything below it exists to answer whatever objection stopped the visitor acting. That is the same discipline whether the action is a phone call, a quote request or a checkout.

Deliverables

What we deliver

  • Mobile-first design, tested on a real handset rather than a browser simulator
  • Semantic, accessible markup — headings in a logical order, real form labels, visible focus states
  • Contact and enquiry forms with proper validation and error messages, wired to your inbox
  • Core Web Vitals treated as a build requirement, not a post-launch fix
  • Logo design included, with three directions to choose from
  • Google Business Profile set up or cleaned up
  • A human review pass on links, forms, spelling, mobile and load speed before you ever see the site

How it runs

The process for this work

The same sequence on every project, which is why the timeline can be honest.

Discover

Your services, your customers, the areas you cover and what a good enquiry actually looks like for you.

Structure

Sitemap and page structure mapped to what people search for, so each page answers one intent.

Design

Visual direction applied at phone width first, then expanded.

Build

Developed as a static, fast, accessible site rather than a page builder export.

Review

A person checks every link, form, breakpoint and spelling before the preview goes out.

Launch

Domain connected, profile set up, handed over with everything in your name.

Questions

Web design — the common questions

How long does a website take to build?

Most builds are live within a week of your content arriving — your logo, photographs, services and hours. The clock starts when the content lands rather than when you pay, so the fastest thing you can do is complete the brief properly. Rush delivery targets 48 hours for an additional 25%.

Will my site look like everyone else's?

It starts from a structure we know works for your sector, then it is designed around your brand, colours, photographs, services and area. What the starting structure guarantees is that the page order and the enquiry journey are already proven, rather than being guessed at from scratch.

What if I do not have a logo or photographs?

Logo design is included with every package, with three directions to choose from. If you have no photographs we launch with high-quality stock and swap yours in when you have them — that swap is covered by a care plan.

Who owns the website when it is finished?

You do — the domain, the content and the site itself. If you ever move to another provider it transfers to accounts you control. We do not hold hosting or domains hostage.
